Expecting a new baby in your family or know someone who might be? A newborn photo shoot is probably one of the most important shoots you can do for your family. When a baby is less than two weeks old, they are still super sleepy and curly and allow us to pose them in some beautiful ways. The images you can get at this time are so precious and yet incredibly fleeting. A few main things to note if considering a newborn shoot:
1. BOOK YOUR SHOOT BEFORE YOUR BABY IS BORN
I can’t stress this enough. This 2-week window is tight, and ideally your baby is still under 10 days old. It’s not only difficult for a photographer to fit you in that soon, but it can sometimes be impossible.
2. IF YOU DIDN’T DO IT FOR YOUR FIRST CHILD[REN], YOU CAN STILL DO IT FOR THIS ONE!
So many parents say that they can’t do a newborn shoot because their baby’s silblings weren’t granted this priviledge. I wholeheatedly disagree. In fact, I had two sons before I began shooting newborns; and therefore, ONLY did a newborn shoot with my third. They will appreciate it when they grow older, and hopefully the siblings won’t pilage and burn the photos from jealousy. Also, being the youngest of 3 in my family, there are actually far LESS photos of me than my older brother and sister. Even being a professional photographer, my second and third have not been documented nearly as much as my first.
3. IF THE THOUGHT OF LEAVING THE HOUSE WITH YOUR NEWBORN FRIGHTENS YOU TO DEATH, LET ME PUT YOUR MIND AT EASE.
I pretty much solely photograph newborns in my studio in Driggs. I find it works best for everyone. No need to clean the house for a shoot, you know!? As a result, the majority of my clients drive over Teton Pass from Jackson with their new babe (even in the winter) all the time. Once they get here, however, it’s incredibly relaxing. There’s a cozy couch to rest on, tea and snacks and espresso (decaf too!), boppy pillows, changing tables, wipes, diapers, soothing music and more to make them comfortable. Most clients ask if they have to go home after it’s over. And many a client even finds a minute to doze off. We know how to pamper you.
4. WE DO BABY REGISTRY
Let’s face it. Having a baby is expensive and custom newborn photography is a significant investment as well. If it’s really important to you but not necessarily in the budget, consider adding it to your registry. People want to gift things that you will use and love, and a newborn shoot definitely qualifies!
