I absolutely love photographing my friends’ families. Since I already have a relationship with the parents and kids, it allows us to skip the “getting to know each other” time and get right to the fun stuff. This is Kelly and Jason’s family, whom I adore so much. You’d never know from the pictures that it was a brutally cold day, as the clear ones often are.
So how do we pull this off? Well, other than the obvious method of trying to move quickly, it’s also important to allow moments to warm up in the car. Sometimes, we move locations so this is an easy transition. Since we stayed in one spot, more or less, for this shoot, we allowed the kids some time to thaw their toes in the toasty car. Hats (and mittens) are also a great warming tool as well as a great wintery prop. There will, however, come a time when the kids have just had enough so it’s important to know when to say when so you don’t have to encounter those epic melt-downs. And for those bright red noses, there’s always photoshop!
