WEDDINGS
Do you shoot film or digital?
I shoot almost exclusively digital, but occasionally shoot film upon request.
What cameras do you use?
All Canon, Baby. I love my Canon 5Ds with a variety of lenses. When shooting film, my Hasselblad remains my favorite. Now and again, I'll bring along a Holga for a unique perspective.
Do you shoot "formal" portraits?
Yes, of course. Although my style is photojournalistic, I still encourage couples to take the more posed photos. It's not very often that your loved ones are all in the same place, and it's probably something you'll appreciate having. If you would rather not do these, however, it is entirely up to you. It is helpful to have a list of people you want in these ahead of time, but I'm also game to wing it the day-of as well.
When do you typically shoot the formal portraits?
Traditionally, brides and grooms don't see each other before the ceremony, so the portraits are scheduled after the ceremony, but before the reception. More recently, many couples are deciding to forgo the traditions and schedule the formals for before the ceremony. This allows for much greater flexibility, not to mention your hair and make-up will be fresh and prefect! Again, it is your decision as to what you prefer.
How long after the wedding can we expect to see our photographs?
As quickly as possible! Depending on the time of year and my work load, it can take up to 4 weeks to see your photos online. I also do my best to post my selected favorites on my blog as a preview.
How many photo go in our album? Do we get to pick them?
Yes, I prefer you choose your favorites and request that you pick around 100 for a typical 40-page book. I'd be happy to consult or offer my opinions in the selection process. It is possible to add more than this, but a fee will be charged for each additional page needed to accommodate more photos and design time.
Once we choose our album photos , how long does it take?
I typically try to do most designing beginning in the fall, not during peak summer monnths. At that time, design can take 3-4 weeks. Once it goes to print, you can expect it in another 4 weeks or so. Rush options are available for an additional fee.
Can anyone order prints off the web gallery?
You will be supplied with a link and password to your gallery. Anyone who views the images will be able to order prints that will be shipped directly to them. Galleries can be left open upon request.
Do you set up lighting for photographs during the wedding?
Not if I can help it! Part of my being able to remain unobtrusive and work quickly is my lack of elaborate equipment. I use natural light, an occasional reflector and an on-camera flash, when necessary.
Will we get digital files of our photographs?
All of my packages include a DVD of high-resolution files. There is the option to purchase this with the á la carte option.
PORTRAITS
What should we wear?
This is the most commonly asked question. My most general answer is to make sure everyone coordinates with each other. It really depends whether you want a more casual or formal feel. With children, I recommend comfortable clothes that allow them to show their personalities, and I encourage outfit changes. For infants, just a diaper or no clothes at all makes for a great photo. Props are always fun too!
In general, what time of day is best for a photo shoot?
Early morning or late evening is best for optimal lighting. On a side note, even though we live in a place full of natural beauty, I encourage everyone to consider simple, natural backgrounds rather than trying to get fabulous landscapes in every photo. It's about the people, not the background.
But we want us in front of the Tetons. When can we shoot this?
It depends if you are on the Wyoming side or the Idaho side. In Jackson, the sun rises and lights up the Tetons so early morning is good. It is also wonderful at sunset with the sun just behind them. In Idaho, it's a little trickier. Morning is not an option since the sun is too bright behind the Tetons so we must do these in the evening. In the summertime, this can mean as late as 8 or 9pm so no one is squinting into the setting sun. Obviously, this can be a tough hour for little ones.
Will we get digital files of our photographs?
Your photo shoot includes an online gallery for 3 months. You also have the option to purchase a DVD of high-resolution digital files.
