A little photography talk now…
My 50mm 1.4 lens has been in my camera bag for about 2 years. I hadn’t often used it since my zoom lenses give me more freedom while shooting weddings and portraits. But recently, I started using it a lot more mostly because it’s smaller and lighter than my other lenses, easier for a new mom also lugging around a diaper bag/purse/3 year old/etc.
I’ve fallen madly in love.
Prime lenses (non-zoom lenses) are always sharper and have beautiful bokeh (a nice blurry background.) But they take some practice to get the right focal point when you use a wide open aperture (shallow depth of field.) I’ve been using it almost exclusively for the last few months and am getting pretty good at nailing the ultra shallow focus area and I’ve been thrilled with the results.
Now I know it isn’t the 50mm 1.2 lens, and hopefully someday I’ll have $1400 to spend on that one, but for now I am pretty happy with this one. Take a look!
