For those of you who are locals, you’ve no doubt heard of Ben Winship, an incredible mandolin player (and player of many other instruments), singer, songwriter, recording artist, producer…the list goes on. He’s also a really great guy, proud family man, and a real treasure to have in our little valley.
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing him a few times before, mostly portraits, but for this shoot, the goal was to get some shots of his recording studio, The Henhouse, for a website rejuvenation project. It’s always a good time hanging out with Ben, talking music, learning this or that and conversing about life in general.
Music and musicians have been a recurring theme in my life and photography. (If I didn’t have performance anxiety, who know where life could have taken me!) Since I’ve had so many as friends and roommates, they’ve also often become my subjects. It’s just feels familiar when I photograph musicians and pretty much all of them have an incredible sense of creativity and humor.
