the murray family | grand teton national park

When the summer season is in full swing, it’s hard to blog more than a preview here and there. This beautiful family, however, deserves a lot more than a preview…I mean look at that outfit coordination!

This summer, so many families chose Jackson Hole as a spot to have a family reunion, and I had the honor of documenting that occasion. A lot of people know they want photos, but aren’t sure what a photo shoot of this would look like. When I get large families like this together, my goal is to get as many groupings as possible in the time booked. I always be sure to get the big group shot first, while everyone is happy. That way, if little ones melt away, we know we already got the important shot…everyone together in the same place.

Another really important shot is having grandma/grandpa with the grandkids…that would be Cookie in this shoot. She and her grandkids adore each other and had so much fun together.

After that, we move on to smaller family groupings. It’s also a great time to get a photo with your spouse since that one is so often overlooked! After that, if there’s time, I like to get a quick “headshot” of each of the kids, a solo shot of the grandparents, and then the fun ones…just people being playful.

This is, in short, the anatomy of my Family Reunion shoot. It’s such a great opportunity to get some really authentic memories of everyone in a slice of time. For your next adventure, plan ahead, find a local photographer, and don’t miss documenting the present!
